The Antel lab is based at the Montreal Neurologic Institute (MNI), a research institute of McGill University that also houses both the clinical in-patient and out-patient components of the Montreal Neurologic Hospital (MNH).
Jack Antel coordinates the Neuroimmunology/Multiple Sclerosis program at the MNI/MNH.. The MNI has a historical collection of autopsy cases of MS (about 100 cases) that have been used in multiple collaborative studies with Tanja Kuhlmann.
For the last 2-3 years, Dr. Samuel Ludwin, formerly the director of the Neuropathology Department at Queen’s University, has been appointed as a visiting scientist to the MNI. He provides access to MS tissues collected from a wide array of North American Institutions, as well as his internationally recognized expertise in the pathology of MS and myelin biology. MS patient blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples are obtained through our clinical program and clinical research unit.
The Antel lab will contribute to the project by establishing primary OPC and neuronal cultures from both human adult and fetal CNS to be used as comparators with iPSC derived cells and by assessing the response in-vitro of such cells to candidate agents.
